DELAWARE (10/5/2015) With coastal flooding diminishing, Gov. Jack Markell lifted a limited state of emergency in Sussex County at 1 p.m. today.

“Thousands of state and local government officials continue to work across Delaware to ensure the safety of residents effected by this weather,” said Markell. “I want to thank first responders for their swift actions to support those in need during this event. Though the precipitation has ended, the impact from the rain and wind will continue until water levels recede. We encourage motorists to avoid driving through flooded roads and contact local agencies if they require assistance or support.”

Route 1 northbound wass closed between Bethany Beach and Dewey Beach earlier today, including the Cullen Bridge over Indian River Inlet, the Delaware Department of Transportation announced, but has since been reopened.

A coastal flood advisory is in effect until 7 p.m., the National Weather Service said, with minor flooding predicted on Rehoboth, Indian River and lower Delaware bays. The service said continuing onshore winds have prevented water from completely draining from the bays at low tides.

High tide will be about 4 p.m. on the oceanfront, and up to several hours later on the bays.

Some flooding of roads is expected, and this may be widespread on the inland bays. (See latest updates in Twitter feed below)

DelDOT reported late Sunday afternoon that Prime Hook Road had been damaged by flooding and would be closed until sunrise today.

DelDOT also said the drawbridge on Route 36 over Cedar Creek at Slaughter Beach is closed to marine traffic until further notice. It remains open to automobile traffic, although both roadways leading to Slaughter Beach have been flooded though usually passable at times the past few days.
