16-year-old boy arrested on gun, drug charges

NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (10/5/2015) A 16-year-old boy was arrested after he was found with a loaded handgun and $300 in suspected drug sales proceeds, New Castle County police said today.

The arrest happened Sunday in the Scotch Hills community in the Wilton area west of New Castle.

After reports of several persons acting suspiciously in a stairwell, Officer First Class M. Donovan found two people sitting on the stairs and the smell of marijuana, Officer First Class Tom Jackson said.

Donovan then found the gun, suspected marijuana and the cash, Jackson said.

The 16-year-old boy was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited (juvenile), possession of marijuana and loitering. He was released later on $12,200 unsecured bail.
