UD student pistol-whipped in Newark home invasion robbery

NEWARK, DELAWARE (10/2/2015) A University of Delaware student was pistol-whipped during a drug-related home invasion robbery early today, Newark police said.

The incident was reported at 1:21 a.m. in the first block of E. Cleveland Ave.

Three men with handguns entered the home through an unlocked door and demanded drugs and money from the victims, both UD students, Sgt. Gerald J. Bryda said. One of the victims is a 19-year-old man and the other is a 20-year-old man.

One of the victims was pistol-whipped and assaulted and suffered a minor injury, Bryda said, but he declined medical treatment.

The three intruders ransacked the home and fled with cash.

Bryda said all three intruders were black. One was about 22 years old, 5-feet-9 to 5-feet-10, average build and 170-175 pounds with dark complexion. He was dressed in black with a hooded sweatshirt and wore a face mask.

The second was about 18 years old, 5-feet-11 to 6 feet tall, with slender build and medium complexion.

The third was 18-22 years old, 5-feet-8 to 5-feet-10 with dark complexion.
