MILTON, DELAWARE (9/19/2015) A husband and wife were injured when a motorcycle collided Friday with a car that pulled out in front of it on southbound Route 1 east of Milton, the Delaware State Police said this morning. The man was in critical condition and his wife in serious condition.

The accident happened about 7 p.m. at Hudson Road.

The 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was southbound when the driver of a Mercury Montego that was waiting at the stop sign on Hudson failed to see the motorcycle and started to cross the southbound lanes, police said.

The motorcycle, driven by Kenneth R. Tarburton Sr., 54, struck the left rear of the car, ejecting Tarburton and his wife who was his passenger, Elizabeth A. Tarburton, 53. Both are from Wilmington.

He was flown by state police helicopter to Christiana Hospital in Stanton. She was taken by ambulance to Beebe Healthcare’s hospital in Lewes. Police said her injuries were not life-threatening.

The driver of the car, Amanda L. McDonald, 27, of Lewes, and a child riding with her were taken to Beebe for evaluation and released, police said.

Police are still investigating the crash but said alcohol does not appear to be a factor. Charges are pending.

The southbound lanes of Route 1 (Coastal Highway) were closed about 2½ hours.

Kenneth Tarburton was wearing an approved helmet, police said, and both people in the car were wearing seat belts.
