Tips offered after thefts from vehicles in Sussex

DSP logoMILLSBORO/LONG NECK DELAWARE (9/14/2015) In the wake of several thefts from vehicles in Sussex County, the Delaware State Police are offering tips to residents to help avoid similar crimes.

The incidents happened in the Oak Orchard, Mount Joy and Long Neck areas east of Millsboro.

The thief or thieves rummaged through unlocked vehicles in driveways in most of the seven cases and in one case entered a home through an unlocked garage door overnight from Sept. 5 to Sept. 9.

Police offered these tips:

  • Lock car doors and roll up windows.
  • Close and secure garage doors.
  • Do not leave valuables inside a vehicle.
  • Leave outdoor lights on in the driveway or have security lighting installed.
  • Report any suspicious activity to 911 immediately.
