Elderly man robbed near Dover

DOVER, DELAWARE (9/8/2015) An 84-year-old man was robbed by someone who stopped and asked if he could use the phone, Delaware State Police said today.

The incident happened about 1 p.m. Monday in the first block of Silver Leaf Lane east of Dover.

A man about 25-35 years old drove a burnt-orange or reddish-orange SUV into the man’s driveway and made the request to use the phone. The elderly man replied he could, and as he was bending over to pick up the phone in his garage, the younger man reached into his pocket and took his wallet, police said.

The younger man then drove off.

The elderly man was not hurt, police said.

The robber was described as white, about 5-feet-11, and was wearing a dark blue T-shirt and light colored pants.

The SUV may have had Maryland tags, police said.
