MARYDEL, DELAWARE (8/24/2015) Two boys setting off fireworks started a garage fire that caused heavy damage, authorities said this morning.
The fire was reported about 10:30 a.m. today in the 4700 block of Mahan Corner Road.
Marydel firefighters found the 12- by 24-foot stand-alone garagte engulfed in flames when they arrived, said Michael G. Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.
He said investigators determined the boys, ages 14 and 15, were discharging “bottle rockets” and one of the explosives struck the garage.
Damage was estrimated at $7,500. No injuries were reported.
Chionchio said criminal charges are pending completion of the investigation.
