Coast Guard medevacs man off Fenwick Island

FENWICK ISLAND, DELAWARE (8/21/2015) A Coast Guard helicopter medevaced an injured man from a commercial fishing boat off Fenwick Island, authorities reported Thursday.

The 92-foot boat Alaska radioed for help about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, reaching the Coast Guard’s Sector Delaware Bay headquarters in Philadelphia.

A 34-year-old man working on the boat had suffered a puncture wound about 35 miles east of Fenwick, in the Atlantic Ocean.

The Coast Guard cutter Mako arrived about 2:41 p.m. and sent a crew member to the fishing boat to assist in hoisting the injured man.

A helicopter from Atlantic City arrived 15 minutes later, lowering Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher Conway, a rescue swimmer, and a litter basket aboard the vessel before hoisting the injured man into the aircraft and flying him to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City for treatment.
