NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (8/17/2015) Two teenage boys armed with a handgun escaped with a 48-year-old man’s bicycle after assaulting him north of New Castle, Delaware State Police said Sunday.

The incident was reported at 11:39 a.m. Saturday in front of Garfield’s Liquors store at 3003 New Castle Ave. (Route 9).

When the pair confronted the man and demanded his bicycle, he didn’t immediately comply, police said, and one of the juveniles struck him in the upper body with a handgun.

The boy then grabbed the bike and fled toward Memorial Drive along with the second boy who also was on a bicycle.

The victim gave chase, following them on Memorial Drive and south on Lind Drive, losing them on Halcyon Drive near a Shell gas station. A tow-truck driver picked up the victim and attempted to pursue the youths but lost sight of them on Morehouse Drive.

Police said the victim’s injuries were minor and he didn’t receive medical treatment.

The robbers were described as black, 14 to 16 years old, 5-feet-5 to 5-feet-7 and wearing dark shirts and shorts.

Police asked anyone with information to call 302-365-8566.
