WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (8/13/2015) A Wilmington police officer spotted a man aiming a gun at another person and gave chase when the gunman ran, arresting him, authorities said today.

The incident happened about 5 p.m. Wednesday at 17th and Thatcher streets.

Verna told Ackridge to drop the gun, police said, but Ackridge fled on foot with the weapon.

Verna caught up with him in the 900 block of Vandever Ave. and took Ackridge into custody, police said, along with a .40 caliber Hi-Point semi-automatic handgun loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition.

Ackridge was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a weapon with obliterated serial number, possession by a person prohibited-prior violent felony and resisting arrest.

Arraignment was pending and bail had not been set.
