2nd suspect in gunfight near Dagsboro surrenders

DAGSBORO, DELAWARE (8/7/2015) The second suspect in a gunfight that broke out during a dispute over illegal drug sales in the Diamond Acres community north of Dagsboro surrendered this afternoon to Delaware State Police.

The incident happened about 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the 28000 block of E. Diamond Drive.

Police said they learned that William U. Drummond, 42, of Dagsboro, was in a fight with others over illegal drug sales near his home and when he heard gunshots, he obtained a .22 caliber revolver from the front steps of his home and began firing at 19-year-old Shaquone M. Smith, who police said was firing back.

No one was struck by the gunfire.

Police said Smith, of Dagsboro, fled in a green vehicle.

Drummond was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited due to a 2007 felony conviction, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and reckless endangering. He was being held at Sussex Correctional Institution near Georgetown in lieu of $18,500 secured bond.

Smith turned himself into detectives this afternoon and was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and first-degree reckless endangering. He was being held at Sussex Correctional in lieu of $22,000 secured bond.
