LEWES, DELAWARE (7/31/2015) The pinkish glow of the rising moon just after sunset this evening captured the attention of someĀ along the Lewes & Rehoboth Canal.

But it was another color that made this one a bit unusual – it was a blue moon, the second full moon in the same month.

The first was on July 2.

A blue moon seldom looks blue, unless there are special atmospheric conditions such as a volcanic eruption or forest fire.

Blue moons happen every two to three years, giving us the saying “once in a blue moon.” The last was in August 2012 and the next will be in January 2018.
