GEORGETOWN, DELAWARE (7/16/2015) A 47-year-old man died Wednesday when his farm tractor tumbled into a ditch, overturned and trapped him under water, Delaware State Police said.
The accident happened about 6:45 p.m. as Kendell B. Hastings was cutting brush along the ditch a quarter mile behind his home at 18642 County Seat Highway (U.S. 9), about 2 miles southwest of Georgetown.
Police said Hastings was using an older model Ford 8N tractor when the right rear tire apparently slipped off the edge along the steep tax ditch bank.
Hastings was dead by the time emergency crews arrived, police said.
Police termed the incident an accidental drowning, but said the Delaware Division of Forensic Science will conduct an autopsy.
