Motorcyclist seriously injured in Glasgow U.S. 40 crash

DSP logoGLASGOW, DELAWARE (7/13/2015) A 47-year-old Newark man was seriously injured Sunday when his motorcycle collided with an SUV that pulled out in front of him on U.S. 40 in Glasgow, Delaware State Police said.

The accident happened just after 2 p.m. in the left eastbound lane at 2439 Pulaski Highway (U.S. 40), just west of Glasgow Avenue.

David J. Natale was driving a 2007 Harley-Davidson when Scott C. Payne, 41, of Newark, pulled out from the Jiffy Lube parking lot into his path, police said. Payne was driving a 2011 Jeep Wrangler.

Police said Natale tried to avoid hitting the Jeep by braking and laying the bike on the ground, but struck the passenger side of the Jeep.

Natale was taken by state police helicopter to Christiana Hospital, where he was admitted with injuries police said were not life-threatening. He was wearing an approved helmet.

Payne was not injured. Police cited him for inattentive driving and failure to have proof of insurance in his possession.

Eastbound U.S. 40 was closed about 45 minutes.
