Wilmington man arrested on drug, gun charges

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (6/30/2015) A Wilmington officer patrolling in the 400 block of S. Heald St. arrested a man on gun and drug charges after a struggle, police said Monday.

The incident happened about 9 p.m. Sunday, when Patrolman Doug Rivell saw a man seated on steps on a vacant property that was posted with “no loitering” signs, police said.

The man, later identified as Damont Emory, 18, of Wilmington, attempted to flee and during the struggle he produced a handgun from his waistband, police said.

Rivell was able to get the gun out of his hand and subdue Emory until additional officers arrived.

The weapon was a 9 mm Millennium handgun, and police said they also found 40 glass vials containing crack cocaine and four bags of heroin.

Emory was charged with loitering, possession of heroin, possession of Tier 5 quantity of a controlled substance with an aggravating factor, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance with an aggravating factor, resisting arrest with force, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a weapon in a safe school zone and possession of a weapon during commission of a felony.

Emory was being held at Young Correctional Facility in lieu of $160,000 cash bail and $3500 secured bail.
