BRIDGEVILLE, DELAWARE (6/21/2015) A 55-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash east of Bridgeville late Saturday, Delaware State Police reported this morning.

The victim was identified as Keith M. Harris of Bridgeville.

The crash happened as he was driving a 2002 Suzuki 1400 southbound on Coverdale Road, just south of Seashore Highway (Routes 18/404) at high speed about 10:30 p.m., police said.

Harris was on a slight right curve when he drove into the northbound lane  and then off the east side of the road to avoid an oncoming vehicle, police said.

The motorcycle struck a bush and Harris was ejected from the bike, landing on the ground. He was not wearing a helmet.

Harris was taken by ambulance to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police are still investigating but said alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in the accident.

Coverdale Road was closed about 2½ hours while the crash was investigated.
