BRIDGEVILLE, DELAWARE (6/12/2015) A tanker tractor-trailer carrying water overturned this morning northeast of Bridgeville while avoiding a deer, sending the driver to a hospital, Delaware State Police said.

The accident happened about 10:30 a.m. on Fawn Road east of Sugar Hill Road.

When the deer crossed in front of the truck, police said, the driver, identified as William W. Dewey, 62, of Seaford, swerved to the right to avoid the animal, entering a ditch that caused the fully loaded vehicle to overturn in a field.

He was taken by ambulance to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, where he was treated for injuries not life-threatening and released, police said. He was wearing a seat belt.

Fawn Road was closed in the area about three hours while troopers investigated and the tanker was emptied and righted.

No charges were filed, police said.
