Man charged with assaulting Milford police dog, DUI

MILFORD, DELAWARE (6/12/2015) A Rehoboth Beach man fleeing from officers after a traffic stop was charged with assaulting a police dog and DUI after he punched the K-9 several times when it captured him, Milford police said Thursday.

Kevin D. Hardy, 30, refused police commands and was subdued with a stun gun and taken into custody about 11:20 p.m. on May 31, Detective Dwight Young said.

He had crashed his vehicle into a pedestrian foot bridge on Truitt Avenue and then fled on foot, Young said.

Hardy also was charged with possessing 1.8 grams of marijuana, disregarding an officer’s signal, reckless endangering and multiple traffic offenses.

He was being held at Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $6,225 secured bond.
