INDIAN RIVER INLET, DELAWARE (6/10/2015) An 86-year-old man was found dead in the water at South Shore Marina, near Indian River Inlet, and investigators think he fell off his boat and drowned.
The body of Robert Roberts, of Rehoboth Beach, was found near the marina where his boat was docked by a local resident who was checking his minnow pots Tuesday.
A nearby off-duty firefighter helped the resident recover the body. Bethany Beach firefighters were called to the marina just after 5 p.m.
Roberts had gone to the marina late Tuesday afternoon to clean his pleasure boat that was in one of the marina’s slips. State natural resources police believe he fell from the swim platform at the boat’s stern.
Natural resources police as well as Delaware State Police are investigating the death.
The body was turned over to the state Division of Forensic Science.
