3 hurt in crash near Newark

NEWARK, DELAWRE (6/3/2015) Three people were injured Tuesday night in a tw0-vehicle crash on West Chestnut Hill Road near Newark, authorities said.

The accident happened about 9:30 p.m. at Smithfield Drive.

Two women were trapped in the wreckage about 10 minutes until freed by firefighters from the Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company, said Cpl. Abigail E. Haas of New Castle County paramedics.

A 22-year-old woman was treated for scrapes and taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton in stable condition.

A 24-year-old woman was treated for possible abdominal injuries and taken to Christiana in stable condition, Haas said.

A 47-year-old man also was taken to Christiana in stable condition with injuries not life-threatening.

The crash is being investigated by Delaware State Police.

Christiana Fire Company also responded.
