UPDATED STORY: DSU president says campus safe; 3 shooting victims were not students

DOVER, DELAWARE (4/18/2015) Three people were shot on the Delaware State University campus tonight, authorities said.

The shooting happened about 8 p.m. during an annual university-scanctioned Greek cook-out event, DSU President Harry L. Williams said in a statement on the university’s website. He said no arrests had been made as of 11 p.m.

He said the three injured were taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Dover and are reported in stable condition.

The identities of the three are not known, Williams said.

“The student residential population has been directed to stay in their residential halls. Non-DSU individuals are being directed off-campus,” Williams said.

DelDOT issued a warning to motorists about increased pedestrian traffic in the area on U.S. 13.

“This is currently an active investigation. The safety of our students continues to be paramount and our police will aggressively continue their investigation until an arrest or arrests are made in this shooting incident. DSU campus police are the lead agency investigating the incident. The Dover Police Department, Delaware State Police and other agencies are providing assistance,” Williams said.

He asked anyone with information to contact the DSU Police Department at (302) 857-7911.
