Fire causes $300,000 damage to Mill Creek home

MILL CREEK, DELAWARE (3/19/2015) Fire caused $300,000 damage at a home in the Highland West community early today, officials said.

Mill Creek firefighters found heavy flames and smoke showing when they arrived in the first block of Merrimor Court after the initial alarm at 1:55 a.m.

The family of four escaped safely and is staying with relatives, said Robert L. Fox, chief deputy state fire marshal.

He said investigators are still trying to determine how the fire started in the two-story colonial home.

Mill Creek firefighters were assisted by others including Cranston Heights, Elsmere, Belvedere, Minquas, Hockessin and Wilmington Manor. New Castle County paramedics and police also responded.
