ST. GEORGES, DELAWARE (2/26/2015) Construction is about to begin on the final phase of the Michael N. Castle Trail along the north bank of the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal, state officials announced this morning.
The work will begin in early March and be finished in about 75 days, extending the trail from the Maryland line to Guthrie Run.
The trail along the scenic canal bank accommodates pedestrians, bicyclists and equestrians as well as providing access to the canal for anglers.
The completed trail will stretch for 16 miles between Delaware City and Chesapeake City, Maryland.
The trail, named after the former congressman and governor, is a combined effort of the state transportation and environmental departments as well as other partners.
