DELAWARE (2/1/2015) An icy wintry mix is expected to slam northern Delaware this evening and cause slippery roadway conditions, but with less snow than earlier predicted, forecasters say.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for New Castle County and nearby areas of Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey from 7 tonight until 7 a.m. Monday.
Less than an inch of snow is now predicted to begin late today and then mix with sleet and freezing rain before changing mostly to rain by daybreak. A glaze of ice is expected to coat the surface.
The temperature will be in the lower 30s tonight and rise into the low 40s Monday morning befoer falling back into the 20s Monday afternoon.
Wind today will gust to 20 mph.
This storm is expected to have higher snow depths north of Delaware, with up to 14 inches predicted for parts of the Pocono Mountains in northeastern Pennsylvania and in northern New Jersey.
