Broomstick used to fend off robbers armed with brick

ELSMERE, DELAWARE (1/30/2015) A broomstick was used to fend off two robbers threatening a man with a brick near Elsmere, state police said today.

The robbery try happened about 7:25 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of the Sleepy’s mattress store at 3737 Kirkwood Highway.

The victim, from Woodlyn, Pennsylvania, was approached by the two robbers — one armed with a brick — who demanded his money.

He refused and pulled a broomstick out of his vehicle, at which point the men fled. They were last seen running behind the store, Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale said.

The robber with the brick was described as 15-17 years of age and 5-feet-4 to 6 feet. He wore an orange hooded sweatshirt and had a bandanna covering his face. The other was wearing a black jacket and dark pants.
