4 arrested on heroin charges in Seaford area

SEAFORD, DELAWARE (1/23/2015) Four people were arrested and thousands of bags of heroin seized this week after what state police said was a months-long investigation into illegal drug sales from a Seaford-area hotel room and a Blades home.

Three of the arrests were made about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday in the first block of E. Third St. in Blades.

Bryant LeCates, 24, of Blades, Pamela M. Lama, 45, of Blades and Joseph Owens Jr., 53, of Blades were taken into custody without incident.

Police said 280 bags of heroin with a total weight of 4.2 grams, .4 grams of marijuana, .4 grams of powder cocaine, drug paraphernalia and more than $900 in suspected drug proceeds were confiscated.

At 2 p.m. that day, Michael D. Coverdale, 38, of Seaford, was arrested in a room at the Sunrise Motel, 22512 Sussex Highway. Police said they seized 7,808 bags of heroin with a weight of 117.09 grams, 3 oxycodone pills, more than $6,000 in suspected drug proceeds, drug paraphernalia and a loaded 9 mm handgun.

All four were charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin and related counts.

LeCates was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $17,200 cash bond.

Lama was being held at Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in lieu of $28,500 cash bond.

Joseph Owens Jr. was committed to Sussex Correctional on $28,500 cash bond.

Coverdale was being held at Sussex Correctional in lieu of $150,900 cash bond.
