Icy spots persist; Alberta Clipper threatens

DELAWARE (1/19/2015) With temperatures still near freezing, drivers are being warned to watch out for black ice this morning after a day that dumped nearly 2 inches of rain on parts of the state.

Some scattered accidents have been reported across the region.

One on Philadelphia Pike near Harvey Road knocked down utility poles and repairs are underway, according to DelDOT. Delmarva Power estimates those without power in the area will have service restored by 10 a.m.

Meanwhile, forecasters at the National Weather Service say an Alberta Clipper system could bring some light snow by Wednesday night. But at this point not much accumulation is expected.

Today’s high is predicted to be about 40 degrees with partly cloudy skies. Winds may gust close to 30 mph.
