$250,000 fire damage to commercial building in New Castle

NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (1/17/2015) A fire at a former car dealership in New Castle caused about $250,000 damage, investigators said today.

The blaze broke out shortly after 11 p.m. in the 400 block of W. Seventh St., said Robert L. Fox, chief deputy state fire marshal.

New Castle police were first on the scene of the former Gambacorta Motors location and found heavy smoke coming from the commercial building, Fox said.

Good Will Fire Company members arrived shortly after and reported heavy flames inside the building.

Fire marshal deputies were back on the scene this morning trying to determine how the fire started.

Fox asked anyone with information to call the state Fire Marshal’s Office at 302-323-5375.
