HOCKESSIN, DELAWARE (1/15/2015) A collision between a pickup truck and a flatbed tractor-trailer left a 26-year-old Pennsylvania man dead this afternoon, state police said.

The crash happened just before 1 p.m. in the 7100 block of Lancaster Pike (Route 41).

The man killed was identified as William Fox, of Ridley Park.

He was driving south at high speed in a 2011 Dodge R15 pickup south of Schoolhouse Road, said Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale.

Fox’s vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane, where it struck the rear of a northbound 2001 Mack tractor-trailer driven by John Roads, 60, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

The pickup came to rest in the roadway. The tractor-trailer continued north where it struck two road signs and a utility pole before coming to rest.

Fox, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Roads, who was properly restrained, was not injured, Hale said.

Lancaster Pike was closed about four hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

Troopers are still investigating but no charges are expected, Hale said.

Hockessin Fire Company responded to the crash.
