BETHANY BEACH, DELAWARE (1/11/2015) A 39-year-old Selbyville man was killed early today when his car went off a road and struck a tree south of Ocean View, state police said.
The man killed was identified as Scott B. Bunting.
The accident happened about 3:35 a.m. on Double Bridges Road near Parker House Road. It was the second fatal accident in the state today, following one on I-95 near Newark by less than an hour.
Police said Bunting was driving a 1971 Chevrolet Malibu at apparent high speed.
As Bunting approached a sharp right curve with a warning and reduced speed sign posted, police said, he locked his brakes as he attempted to slow but slid off the side and struck a tree head-on.
Bunting, who police said was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Double Bridges Road was closed in the area about 3 hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
