DOVER, DELAWARE (12/29/2014) A 42-year-old man was hospitalized Sunday after being stabbed with his own knife by a man he was trying to rob, Dover police said today.

A 20-year-old man was walking in the area of North West and Fulton streets when Michael Hackett, of Dover, approached and demanded all of his money, Cpl. Mark Hoffman said.

The victim refused and Hackett punched him in the face, causing a cut above his left eye, according to police.

The two then fought and Hackett pulled out a 10-inch hunting knife, with the 20-year-old suffering defensive cuts on his hands, Hoffman said.

During the struggle, Hackett received a puncture wound to the chest.

Both men were taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital.

The 20-year-old robbery victim was treated and released.

Hoffman said Hackett will be formally charged with robbery, assault and related counts when he is released from the hospital
