Man killed as car crashes through New Castle Airport fence

NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (12/21/2014) A man died early today when his car crashed through a fence at New Castle Airport along U.S. 13.

The victim, about 30 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Sgt. Michael A. McColley of New Castle County paramedics.

The crash happened in the southbound lanes just before 5 a.m. in the 100 block of N. DuPont Highway (U.S. 13), just north of Hares Corner.

State police said the 2001 Infiniti G20 drifted off the road for unknown reasons and struck the fence and support poles.

The unidentified driver was the only occupant.

An autopsy by the Division of Forensic Science is planned to identify the victim.

Two lanes of southbound U.S. 13 were closed about 3 hours as the crash was investigated.
