2 hurt in school bus crash

NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (11/25/2014) Two people on a school bus, including a 13-year-old boy, were injured Monday in a collision with a truck, state police said.

The accident happened about 6:50 a.m. on New Castle Avenue (State Route 9) north of New Castle.

Police said Lesia A. Bass, 49, of Newark was driving the 2001 International bus owned by First Student Inc. She was northbound and making a left turn onto Rogers Road into the path of a southbound 1995 UD box truck.

The front left of the truck struck the front left of the bus, police said. The truck swerved off the road, striking a light pole before stopping. The bus came to a stop on Rogers Road.

The teenager and a 35-year-old woman on the bus were taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening, police said. No other injuries were reported.

Bass was cited by police for failing to yield.
