DOVER, DELAWARE (6/20/2016) A 20-year-old man was killed in a crash between an SUV and pickup truck along Dover’s northern border when one driver failed to brake at a stop sign, Delaware State Police reported.
The crash happened at 6:23 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Dyke Branch Road and Lewis Drive/East Denneys Road.
The man killed was identified as Hunter B. Watson, of McLean, Virginia.
He was a passenger in the front seat of a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was northbound on Lewis Drive and failed to stop at the stop sign, police said.
The SUV was struck on the passenger side by a westbound 2008 Ford F-250 pickup truck, which police said had the right-of-way.
Both vehicles spun around and ended up on the northwest corner of the intersection, which is just east of a Route 1 overpass.
Watson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep, identified as Rod Zarafshar, 20, of McLean, was flown to Christiana Hospital in Stanton and admitted for treatment of undetermined injuries, police said.
The driver of the pickup, Robert J. Falcone, 37, of Dover, was taken by ambulance to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Dover for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening.
The intersection was closed about four hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
Police are still investigating but said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. All involved were wearing seat belts.
