DAGSBORO, DELAWARE (12/12/2015) A 62-year-old Delmar woman died this afternoon in a head-on crash north of Dagsboro, according to Delaware State Police.

The accident happened about 1:40 p.m. in a rural area on Iron Branch Road, just north of Main Street.
The woman killed was identified as Elizabeth J. Willey. Police said she was driving a 1993 Mercury Cougar southbound on Iron Branch Road just north of Main Street, approaching a moderate right curve, when for unknown reasons she crossed into the northbound lane.

The car collided head-on with a northbound 2010 Ford Explorer SUV, driven by Samuel B. Tull Jr., 21, of Frankford.

Police said Tull attempted to steer right, but was unable to avoid the Mercury.

A 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV, driven by Donna R. Robbins, 47, of Dagsboro, also was northbound and swerved right to miss the crash, driving off the east side of the roadway and striking an electric fence.

Willey, who police said was not wearing a seat belt, was extricated from the car by Dagsboro firefighters and pronounced dead at the scene.

Tull and an 18-year-old woman riding with him did not require medical attention, police said.

Robbins and her three passengers — an 18-year-old woman, a 9-year-old girl and a 5-year-old girl — were not injured.

Police said everyone in the SUVs was wearing seat belts.

Troopers are still investigating the crash but said alcohol is not a factor.

Iron Branch Road was closed in the area for 3½ hours as police investigated.
