FREDERICA, DELAWARE (12/12/2015) A single-vehicle crash south of Frederica this morning sent one man to a hospital in critical condition, according to reports from the scene.
The accident happened about 11:30 a.m. in front of the Portable Buildings shed business. The vehicle ended up in a ditch along the northbound side of the highway.
The 31-year-old man who was ejected in the crash was flown by Delaware State Police helicopter to Christiana Hospital in Stanton.
The road was closed in both directions until shortly after noon, and one northbound lane remained closed till 12:35 p.m. Traffic backed up for miles on Route 1 (Bay Road) as well as numerous side roads where traffic was detoured.
Frederica firefighters responded as well as a Bowers Fire Company ambulance.
Delaware State Police were on the scene investigating the crash.
