NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (8/30/2015) A man and a woman have been charged in connection with a home invasion-style robbery at the Knights Inn motel near New Castle, according to Delaware State Police.
The armed robbery happened about 6:50 p.m. Aug. 22 at 1200 West Ave.
A man with a cloth partially covering his face and a woman wearing a long wig knocked on the door of a second-floor room, then pushed their way in when it was opened. Police said the man began punching a 32-year-old man and then pulled a handgun from his waistband.
The two men fought over control of the weapon, which police said turned out to be a BB gun.
The woman, meanwhile, removed $900 in an envelope from atop a dresser and the two intruders fled.
The 32-year-old man chased them and briefly detained the woman but she fled toward West Avenue.
The victim was not injured.
Police said a cellphone dropped at the scene helped them link Martin W. Thompson, 27, and Latoyia Lynard, 35, both of New Castle, to the crime. Both were charged with robbery, home invasion and conspiracy.
Thompson also was charged with wearing a disguise during commission of a felony.
Thompson was being held in lieu of $67,000 secured bond and Lynard in lieu of $62,000.00 secured bond.
