DELAWARE CITY, DELAWARE (8/29/2015) Three workers were taken to a hospital after possible chemical exposure at the Delaware City Refinery on Friday, authorities said.

The incident happened just after noon at PBF Energey’s facility at 4550 Wrangle Hill Road near Delaware City.

The three workers were believed to have been exposed to an unspecified gas in an area they were working, said Sgt.  Michael A. McColley of New Castle County paramedics.

He said they removed themselves from the area and were decontaminated by refinery staff as a precaution.

A 52-year-old man was treated for headache, dizziness and weakness and taken to Christiana Hospital by paramedics for further evaluation. He was in stable condition.

A 36-year-old man was treated for weakness and lethargy, then transported to Christiana by paramedics for further evaluation. He was in stable condition.

A 40-year-old woman, with no complaint of illness, was taken by fire department ambulance to the hospital as a precaution, McColley said.

Delaware City, Wilmington Manor and Volunteer Hose of Middletown fire companies responded to the refinery.

The gas exposure came a week after a fire broke out at the refinery.
