MIDDLETOWN, DELAWARE (6/11/2018) A Christina School District bus overturned on Summit Bridge Road (U.S. 301) north of Middletown this morning, sending two students to a hospital, the Delaware State Police said.
The crash happened about 6:30 a.m. between Armstrong Corner Road and Old School House Road. The bus headed to Newark High School was carrying two students — a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl — as well as the driver and a bus aide.
The driver of the northbound bus attempted to stop to avoid a collision with a vehicle that slowed in front of it and drove into a ditch, causing the bus to overturn, police said.
Police described the injuries as minor. The injured were treated at the scene by emergency medical services and taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
The bus driver, Shaneeka S. Comeger, 35 of Wilmington, was cited by police for following too closely. The driver was not injured, police said.
The bus aide, a 49-year-old from Newark, also wasn’t injured.
Traffic was disrupted about two hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
