Fire extinguished on Amtrak train in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (5/23/2018) City firefighters extinguished a fire on the Amtrak “Silver Meteor” train on Monday.

The fire was reported about 5:30 p.m. at the Amtrak – Joseph R. Biden Jr. Railroad Station, 200 E. Front St.

When firefighters arrived, smoke and flames were visible from under two of the train’s cars, according to a news release from Wilmington Fire Chief Michael Donohue.

Crews stretched a three-inch water hose to extinguish the flames and passengers were checked for smoke or carbon monoxide problems.

No injuries were reported.

Battalion Chief Richard Danner placed the scene under control at 6:11 p.m.The train was en route from New York City to Miami.
