Motorcyclist, 62, dies after Claymont crash

CLAYMONT, DELAWARE (5/11/2018) A 62-year-old motorcyclist has died from injuries suffered Thursday when his bike was struck from behind by a car, Delaware State Police said.

The crash was reported at 5:14 p.m. on Harvey Road west of Green Street.

James W. Hughes, of Claymont, was driving the 1986 Harley Davidson XL-8 westbound when the bike was struck by the front of a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer.

Hughes was ejected over the handlebars onto the roadway. He was taken to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, and police said he died today.

The driver of the car, a 25-year-old Wilmington woman, came to a stop and remained at the scene, police said. She was not inured. Police said no charges have been filed.

Harvey Road was closed in the area about two hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
