BRANDYWINE HUNDRED, DELAWARE (4/16/2018) A fire that displaced 18 people from the Stoneybrook Apartments complex has been ruled accidental.
The blaze that affected at least three units in the 1200 block of Melontree Court happened when charcoal briquettes used in a grill ignited the rear vinyl siding on the town house, said Michael G. Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.
He said when Claymont Fire Company arrived shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday, flames were visible on the exterior of the two-story town houses.
He said damage was estimated at $250,000.
The American Red Cross and apartment management are providing emergency assistance to the displaced residents.
No injuries were reported.
