Drugs seized, 2 arrested in Wilmington; officer injured

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (4/6/2018) City police seized 663 bags of heroin and arrested two men on assault charges after they resisted arrest, authorities said. An officer was injured.

The incident happened about 12:38 p.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of S. Van Buren St.

Police said Anthony Hall, 35, was in a vehicle but fled on foot when officers approached.

Officers pursued him and a K-9 was used before he was placed in custody.

The other suspect, identified as Sherman English, 54, appeared from inside a home and shut the door on officers, then struggled with him before he was placed in custody, police said.

Police said they had to call in additional officers to disperse a hostile crowd.

Hall was treated for a dog bite at Wilmington Hospital. He was charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, two counts of drug dealing, possession of heroin, second-degree conspiracy, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a person prohibited, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held in lieu of $90,000 cash bail.

English was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree conspiracy, two counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, resisting arrest and possession of ammunition by a person prohibited. He was being held in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.

Police said they also seized 1.3 grams of cocaine, 8.5 grams of marijuana, a 9 mm handgun, an M1 rifle and about $800 cash.

An 11-year veteran police officer was treated at Wilmington Hospital for a torn bicep and released.
