WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (12/19/2017) A 91-year-old Maine man has died of injuries suffered in a crash on Interstate 295 south of Wilmington in October, the Delaware State Police said today.
The crash happened about 7 p.m. Oct. 27 in the southbound lanes just north of Interstate 495.
Police said a 2015 Jeep Cherokee was stopped in the left lane in congested traffic, with a 2017 Hyundai Sonata stopped behind it.
A 2013 Chrysler 200, driven by Judity Kelley, 73, of Portland, Maine, became distracted, police said, and struck the rear of the Hyundai which in turn struck the rear of the Jeep.
All of those involved refused medical treatment at the scene, police said. Kelley was charged then with inattentive driving.
Eugene Paine, 91, of Ellsworth, Maine, a passenger in the Chrysler, was subsequently hospitalized in Florida with a head injury from the crash, and it resulted in his death on Dec. 11, police said.
Police said they are still investigating the crash and asked anyone with information to call Sgt. D. Alexander at 302-365-8484.
