DELMAR, DELAWARE (4/28/2017) A 35-year-old woman was killed Thursday afternoon when her SUV collided with a tractor-trailer east of Delmar, the Delaware State Police said.
The crash was reported at 12:43 p.m. at the intersection of Pepperbox Road and Whitesville Road (Route 30).
Police said Rebecca L. Allen, of Millsboro, was southbound on Pepperbox driving a 2002 GMC Yukon.
Police said she failed to stop at the stop sign and struck the side of a westbound tractor-trailer, which had no stop sign on Whitesville Road.
“As a result, the Yukon began to violently rotate multiple times before coming to a stop on Whitesville Road west of the intersection,” Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said. The tractor-trailer came to a controlled stop.
Allen, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 32-year-old man driving the 2016 Kenworth tractor, pulling a 2014 Ledwell trailer, was not injured. Fournier said he was wearing a seat belt.
Whitesville Road was closed at Pepperbox Road for about four hours while police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
