PEARSONS CORNER, DELAWARE (12/28/2016) A 29-year-old man was killed early Tuesday when his pickup truck struck a tree west of Pearsons Corner, the Delaware State Police said.
The crash happened about 3:40 a.m. on Halltown Road (Route 8).
Police said Elmer C. Jeronimo-Gonzalez, of Marydel, Maryland, was driving a 2001 Toyota Tundra pickup westbound approaching Brittney Lane when the truck went off the north side of the road and hit the tree with its front bumper.
Jeronimo-Gonzalez was taken by ambulance to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Dover, where he died a short time later.
Police said he had not been wearing a seat belt and alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
Halltown Road was closed about 2.5 hours in the area as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
