DELAWARE (8/21/2016) The  “America’s 9/11 Ride” passed through Delaware on Saturday en route to New York City.

The annual motorcycle ride of more than 1,000 bikers pays tribute to those who perished in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and raises scholarship money for children of first responders.

More than 180 police officers from across the country took part.

The riders started Thursday with a visit to the Flight 93 National Memorial crash site in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, then proceeded to The National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial in Arlington, Virginia, on Friday.

The group entered Delaware on Interstate 95 at the Maryland border and departed on Interstate 295 on the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

Event organizers said the motorcycle ride is held in August out of respect for each site and the survivors, allowing them to mourn during September.

The ride planned a procession to the 9/11 Memorial at the World Trade Center site this morning.

The ride is sponsored by America’s 911 Foundation Inc., which is dedicated to supporting first responders nationwide.
