Bear man, 63, killed in motorcycle crash

RED LION, DELAWARE (8/19/2016) A 63-year-old Bear man was killed when his motorcycle crashed into the rear of a parked SUV along Red Lion Road (Route 71) on Thursday night, Delaware State police said.

The crash was reported at 9:06 p.m. just west of Delilah Drive.

John T. McDevitt was driving a 2002 Indian motorcycle eastbound on the right shoulder when the bike struck the rear of an unoccupied 2005 Ford Explorer SUV.

Police said the force of the impact left the motorcycle embedded in the rear of the SUV.

McDevitt was ejected from the motorcycle and struck the rear of the Explorer, coming to rest on the right shoulder.

He was treated at the scene by New Castle County parameedics and then taken to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said McDevitt wasn’t wearing a helmet.

 

Red Lion Road was closed for abouty two hours as police investigated.
