6-year-old boy in critical condition after fiery Glasgow crash

GLASGOW, DELAWARE (8/19/2016) Four people were taken to hospitals after a fiery crash in Glasgow early today, Delaware State Police said. A 6-year-old boy was in critical condition.

The crash happened about 2 a.m. on northbound Route 896 (South College Avenue) and U.S. 40 (Pulaski Highway),

It involved a tractor-trailer and a Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Christiana and Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company firefighters were called out and heavy smoke was visible in a DelDOT traffic cam view of the scene. Fire damage was visible on the F-150.

Sgt. Abigail E. Haas of New Castle County paramedics gave these details on the injuries:

• A 6-year-old boy in the pickup was extricated and treated by paramedics for burns, head injury and scrapes before being taken to Nemouts/A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Rockland. He was in critical condition.

• The two other occupants of the pickup, a man and a woman, were taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton for evaluation.

• The 33-year-old man driving the tractor-trailer was treated by paramedics for a head injury, then taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital. He was in serious but stable condition.

• A bystander who helped extricated the child suffered minor burns but declined transport to the hospital.

Police said additional information on the crash will be released later.

DelDOT reported traffic restrictions at the intersection were cleared about 7:30 a.m.
