Pennsylvania man charged in series of Delaware robberies, carjacking

CLAYMONT, DELAWARE (8/13/2016) A Pennsylvania man has been arrested in connection with a series of armed robberies and a carjacking, the Delaware State Police announced this morning.

He is suspected of robbing Dunkin’ Donuts and Wawa stores as well as two Walgreens pharmacies in northern Delaware and a carjacking in Claymont, as well as two armed robberies in Pennsylvania.

Marvin E. Banks, 24, of Upland, Pennsylvania, was arrested Thursday at a home there by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Delaware State Police said evidence was found at the home linking Banks to the crimes. No one was injured in the incidents.

He also is wanted in Delaware for violating conditions of his sex offender status, police said.

Banks is being held in Pennsylvania pending extradition. Delaware State Police obtained warrants charging him with  six counts of first-degree robbery, 11 counts of possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited, six counts of aggravated menacing, two counts of wearing a disguise during commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and two counts of second-degree kidnapping.

The Delaware robberies happened June 30 at the Dunkin’ Donuts at 701 Philadelphia Pike; July 3 at Walgreens, 1508 Philadelphia Pike; July 30 at Walgreens, 802 Philadelphia Pike; and Aug. 5 at Wawa, 301 Ridge Road.

New Castle County police, as well as police in Upland and Brookhaven in Pennsylvania, also were involved in the investigation, Delaware State Police said.
